Affiliate Marketing - Six Great Tips

By Jonathan Lee Jenkins
Following the affiliate marketing tips listed below will help you to avoid wasting time and energy by focusing on the things that actually work.

Tip 1: Select quality products. Unfortunately many people make the mistake of choosing poor quality products. Choosing poor quality affiliate products will reflect on you, since they will be advertised on your website. You should ensure that you choose good quality products that are reasonably priced. In doing so, your customers will trust your website and will be happy to purchase from you. If you make the mistake of selecting poor affiliate marketing products, then they may assume that you are just trying to get rich quick by promoting and selling any old rubbish. You need to build up your reputation and credibility.

Tip 2: Test the product yourself. Unfortunately many people find an affiliate product that they want to promote and that's it. They do not take the time to purchase it and try it out first. How can you possibly promote an affiliate product or service that you haven't even tested yourself? Through testing the product you will be able to give the best information and advice to your customers. Plus if you think its poor quality then you know not to sell it.

Tip 3: Do not settle for low affiliate marketing commission rates. It is perfectly reasonable for an affiliate marketer to receive up to 50% of the profit for each item sold. If the affiliate is offering you anything less than 20% then I'd suggest to look elsewhere, since you want to sign up to someone who will appreciate your affiliate marketing efforts.

Tip 4: Be careful not to sign up to a company that requests you to sign an exclusivity clause. These companies will state that you can only sell their products on your website, therefore you will be forbidden from joining any other affiliate marketing programs. It is recommended that you avoid signing up with companies like this, since you could be losing out on other opportunities that may arise.

Tip 5: Be sure to check that the company has a high sales conversion rate. Before you sign up to an affiliate you should check that the company is turning a decent number of visitors into actual sales. If their conversion rate is low then essentially your efforts at directing traffic to them will be a waste of time and energy. It is recommended that you look for affiliate marketing websites that have at least a one percent conversion rate.

Tip 6: Ensure that they provide you with good resources to secure sales. An affiliate program will provide you with the necessary resources to make a successful living. This usually includes text links, letter templates and banners that can help generate traffic. A good affiliate marketing program will also teach you the best techniques to apply.
